Arek Armenian typeface awarded main prize at Granshan 2010 Eastern Type Design Competition

Arek Armenian typeface developed by graphic designer Khajag Apelian, Netherlands, was awarded the main prize at Granshan 2010, 3rd International Eastern Type Design Competition.

The competition held September 8-9 in Dublin, featured 48 typefaces of 21 designers from 12 countries: Armenia (12), Ecuador (2), Germany (14), Greece (6), Ireland (1), Italy (1), Netherlands (1), Mexico (2), Russia (2), Serbia (1), UK (4), USA (2).

By holding the competition, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia and the Typographic Society Munich intended to enhance the importance of Eastern script systems, beginning with three main fonts: Armenian, Cyrillic, and Greek.
