Wine Holiday will be marked in Areni village (Vayots Dzor region, Armenia) on October 17, when grape harvest and purchase is completed.

Head of Tourism and Regional Economic Development Department at the RA Ministry of Economy Mekhak Apresyan said that the holiday will be marked in Areni for the second time, expressing hope that it will become a tradition. “It is another opportunity to present Armenia and its traditions to the world,” Apresyan told a press conference.

Head of Areni village administration Zhirayr Yeghoyan noted for his part that the holiday is expected to bring together representatives of the Armenian authorities, tourists and foreign guests, who will arrive in Armenia to participate also in the opening ceremony of the longest ropeway leading to Tatev monastery.

Yeghoyan noted that Wine Holiday is aimed not only at raising awareness of the best Armenian wine – Areni – at an international level, but also at developing agro-tourism and revival of Armenian traditions. Specifically, wine and cheese tasting, competition of ride, paintings exhibition and other events will be organized as part of the holiday.

Besides, Yeghoyan said that a competition for the best design of wine label will be organized, what will also contribute to the Armenian wine promotion at world markets.
