Armenian-American gang leader surrenders to police

Vahan Stepanyan, who was wanted for involvement in a Medicare $100 million fraud, has willingly surrendered to police.

Stepanyan is accused of committing credit card fraud and naturalization fraud. He is also reported to be wanted by Albanian law enforcement for murder.

The members of Armenian-American crime ring, which defrauded Medicare of more than $35 million by using stolen doctor and patient identities and setting up dozens of phony clinics coast-to-coast, were taken into custody earlier this week as part of a nationwide Medicare fraud sweep that resulted in charges in California, Ohio, New Mexico and Georgia.
