During a forum on 'Changing role of the Caspian in terms of global energy' held at the John Hopkins University in Washington on October 13, professor of the Haifa University, former chief of the Caspian research program under the Harvard University Brenda Scheffer said that the United States does not pay due attention to the resolution of the Karabakh conflict and pursues an imbalanced policy in the South Caucasus.

Richard Morningstar, U.S. Special Envoy for Eurasian Energy, disagreed with the opinion, saying that the issue is “much more complicated that prof. Scheffer described.”

“You are completely mistaken saying we do not pay attention to the Karabakh conflict. You just blame the unsettled Karabakh conflict on the U.S., as if we have a magic power to resolve it, but do not do so,” he said.

“Many specialists in the current administration are dealing with the issue and I’m hopeful that the conflict will be settled in the near future,” Morningstar said.
