Turkey-EU negotiations delayed for political reasons

Turkey-EU negotiations are being delayed for political reasons, Turkey’s Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis stated.

“Turkey, however, will continue with its activities despite of that,” he said.

In his speech at Ankara University’s European Studies Centre, Bagis stated that in EU accession process Turkey needs scientific studies, correct informing and experts. Turkey’s Chief Negotiator criticized Greek Cypriot authorities’ position, noting that Turkey does not open new issues for political reasons. As the Minister noted, current position will not prevent Turkey from fulfilling the necessary EU requirements, such as promotion of justice, joint struggle against terrorism, visa regime cancellation, the country’s participation in EU summits.

The Chief Negotiator presented the new strategy for EU membership, envisaging brining Turkey’s laws in conformity with EU norms, TRT-Russia reported.
