Nalbandian to take on Andy Roddick at Swiss Indoors Basel 2010 quarterfinals

Argentine of Armenian decent, David Nalbandian, overcame Marin Cilic in the second round of Swiss Indoors Basel- 2010 on Thursday, November 4. He is joined in the quarterfinals by Andy Roddick, who eased past Andrey Golubev.

Cilic showed signs of his former self in a strong first set, but his slump continued as went down to Nalbandian in the second round of the Swiss Indoors on Thursday. Nalbandian, who destroyed Cilic in each of their two previous meetings, battled to a hard-fought victory in one hour and 59 minutes. However, it was Cilic who got off to an impressive start. Although the 15th-ranked Croat gave back a break midway through the first set, his second break of the day finished it off at 5-4.

From there, though, Nalbandian dominated the rest of the way - especially on serve. The 29th-ranked Argentine dropped a mere six service points in sets two and three combined, three in each set. One break was enough for him to serve out the second frame of play at 5-4 and it was the same in the final set. Cilic served at 79 percent in the third, but a double-fault on break point at 1-1 proved costly. Nalbandian goes on to face Andy Roddick while Cilic's record in his last 13 matches falls to 5-8, Tennistalk reported.
