Armenia seriously lacks experts in the psychology of sectarianism and theology, which could help in a struggle against the expansion of destructive sects, according to Alexander Amaryan, the head of the Center for Aid and Rehabilitation to the Victims of Destructive Cults.

“For 6 centuries, Armenia has been oppressed by the Muslim world, succeeding to preserve its religion. Over the recent 20 years they’ve been voluntarily betraying their faith. More than 350 thousand structures have deviated from Armenian Apostolic Church starting from 90s. Currently, about 100 thousand Armenian citizens belong with destructive sects,” the expert noted during Yerevan-Moscow-Tbilisi-Kyiv TV spacebridge on the sects in post-soviet space.

“To discover the reason for recent expansion, Armenia has to unite with other states facing the same issue,” Amaryan suggested.
