Spokesman for the RA Defense Ministry David Karapetyan said that representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross are informed of the fact that Armenian POWs will not be persecuted upon their return to Armenia.

“In contrast to Azerbaijan, where POWs are brought to trial upon their return, such practice is not applied in Armenia,” David Karapetyan said, commenting on reports in Azerbaijani media that Armenian POWs do not want to return to Armenia.

Referring to the possibility of departure of POWs to a third country, Karapetyan said that, according to the RA Constitution, Armenia’s citizens have the right to free movement and can leave for a third country, if they want.
