Current and expecting mothers of Armenia held a protest action near the presidential residence, demanding not to ratify the bill on Benefits for Temporary Disability.

“We consider the amendments introduced to the bill to be absurd. The amendments envisage that those who receive salaries below AMD 150,000 should pay a profit tax, what has not been so, while those who receive salaries above AMD 150,000, will receive benefits at the amount of maximum AMD 160,000,” participant of the protest action Diana Hovhannisyan told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter.

She noted that the bill refers not only to women, but also to all temporarily disabled. Diana Hovhannisyan expressed hope that the President will not sign the parliamentary bill. “We have no plan of further actions,” she said.

A group of young women – current and expecting mothers – sent a letter to the Armenian President, urging him not to ratify the bill on Benefits for Temporary Disability and not to stimulate a range of dangerous phenomena in Armenia.

Women used to be paid 100% of their salary as a maternity leave, while the bill envisages a benefit of maximum AMD 150,000.
