President of the Armenian Weightlifting Federation Samvel Khachatryan is pleased with the results of the U23 European Championships in Limassol, Cyprus.

“This year our sportsmen won 78 medals. The Armenian hymn sounded at each tournament. We are pleased to have so many talented weightlifters,” he said.

As to unsuccessful performance of Olympian Smbat Margaryan, Khachatryan noted that it was Smbat’s fourth tournament this year, which proved to be extremely hard.

“Besides, Smbat has problems with weight and we have decided that he will change his weight category,” he said, adding that U23 champion Araik Mirzoyan will also change his category from 77 to up to 85kg.

“We will spare no effort to qualify 6 men participants for London Olympic Games,” Khachatryan resumed.
