Russian media addresses destructive position shown by Azeri President in Astana

In its recent reports, Russian media addressed the destructive position shown by Azeri President in Astana. According to vremya.ru, by the end of 2-day summit, Azerbaijan was the only state refraining to give consent to Astana declaration.

Insurmountable differences in Russia and Georgia’s positions on the situation after August 2008 war, Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents’ speeches full of mutual accusations, ruling out acceptable compromise in formulation of the conflict, strained the atmosphere at the summit.

OSCE chairman’s statement, urging for compromise in formulation and resolution of regional conflicts, as well as constructive negotiations between Russian, EU and US diplomats allowed to settle certain controversies between summit participants, vremya.ru reported.
