Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan: Azerbaijan felt isolated at Astana summit

Armenian side strengthened its position at OSCE summit in Astana, according to political expert Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan.

As he noted at news conference in Yerevan, Armenia’s position on Karabakh conflict settlement corresponds with that of the mediators. “In present case, Azerbaijan found itself in an isolated situation,” the expert said, giving high assessment to Armenian President’s address at the summit. “President Sargsyan managed to clearly convey Armenia’s stand: the country is unwilling to become involved in a war, yet is ready to respond in case of hostilities resumption.”

“Baku would trigger a war, were it given a chance to resume hostilities. Yet, Azerbaijan is well aware that current Azeri army will not succeed, the war resulting in a great number of victims, exacerbating internal political situation, and finally leading to the disappearance of Aliyev clan from political scene,” the expert emphasized.
