Mahmud Mammad-Guliyev: Baku hopes for EU assistance in Karabakh conflict settlement

EU, as a major force center, may extend support in Karabakh conflict settlement, Mahmud Mammad-Guliyev, Azerbaijan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs stated.

As he stressed at EU - Azerbaijan Cooperation Council meeting, official Baku hopes for EU assistance in resolution of the issue.

“We believe that with EU and international community’s support, Karabaklh conflict will be settled in accordance with the principles of international law,” ANS cited the Minister as saying.

The Cooperation Council between the European Union (EU) and Azerbaijan held its eleventh meeting on Tuesday, December 7, 2010.

The EU was represented by Zsolt Nemeth, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Hungary (Chair of the Cooperation Council meeting) and Stefan Fule, Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy. The Azerbaijani delegation was led by Mahmud Mammad-Guliyev, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus, Ambassador Peter Semneby, also took part in the meeting.
