7,000 victims of corruption applied to AACs in Armenia over two years

Head of the Advocacy and Assistance Centers (AACs) in Armenia Marat Atovmyan said that 7,000 people applied to the AACs over two years of its activity.

During this period, the AACs dealt with around 1,500 cases of supposed corruption nature in the fields of healthcare, property rights, public services, etc, Atovmyan told a press conference in Yerevan on December 15.

“Unfortunately, corruption makes an inseparable part of our life. We can observe corruption risks in various fields, what hampers the country’s economic and social development,” he said.

Atovmyan noted that 11 offices of AACs in Armenia’s region provide free of charge legal services, deal with revelation of system shortages and their presentation to relevant bodies for implementation of legislative and institutional reforms.

Besides, the AACs deals with raising awareness of the Armenian society of corruption risks through organization of seminars in the country’s regions.

The USAID Mobilizing Action Against Corruption provides financial assistance to the AACs.
