Spanish Foreign Minister to visit Armenia in 2011

Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian met with his Spanish counterpart Trinidad Jimenez in Madrid to discuss cooperation opportunities between Armenia and Spain in various fields, interaction within European structures and international organizations, as well as exchange opinion on international and regional problems.

On December 16 an agreement was signed between the Republic of Armenia and the Kingdom of Spain on avoidance of dual taxation. The signing was followed by a separate meeting of the two countries foreign ministers.

Nalbandian and Jimenez discussed visa relaxation among Armenia and the EU member states. Besides, they referred to cooperation opportunities in the fields of culture and tourism. The ministers agreed to take actions to expand the legal-contractual basis, develop a range of agreements, specifically, an agreement on facilitation and protection of investments.

The parties also discussed the possibility of organization of an Armenian-Spanish business forum, saying that a direct air communication between the countries will give a new impetus to the two countries relations. The ministers agreed to sign an agreement on air communication and assist the two countries air companies in establishing a direct air communication between Armenia and Spain.

Mr. Nalbandian invited his Spanish counterpart to pay a visit to Armenia, while Jimenez accepted the invitation, the RA MFA press service reported.
