The Department for Assessment of Internal Audit and Financial Control at the RA Ministry of Finance conducted an inspection in the road construction field.

Head of the Department Sona Gharibyan told journalists that the inspection aimed to study the compliance of implemented works with budgetary financing on capital repair as part of the program of Millennium Challenge Account - Armenia SNCO.

“The RA Ministry of Transport and Communication submitted a $6.8bln application to complete construction works at 26 roads, but we found out that AMD 5bln is enough to finish these works,” said Gharibyan.

Moreover, according to Gharibyan, in January 2010 violations at the amount of AMD 50mln were revealed under a program of the RA Ministry of Transport on roads exploitation and maintenance in winter period. She said that contractors received sums allocated from the budget for works that had not been implemented.

“Contractors will be paid hence only based on the results of implemented works,” concluded Gharibyan.
