Vardan Devrikyan: emigration among Armenia’s major problems

Emigration is among Armenia’s major problems, according to deputy director of Literature Institute.

“The number of people leaving Armenia, especially youth, has considerably increased over the past years,” Vardan Devrikyan told a news conference on December 27.

For his part, secretary of the Armenian Union of Writers Hovhannes Grigoryan referred to the recent government reshuffle. “It would be better if officials were dismissed not because of scuffles but for improper work,” he said.

Member of the ARF Dashnaktsutyun Ruzanna Arakelyan hailed the Armenian leadership’s decision to suspend ratification of the protocols on normalization of relations with Turkey. As to migration, she conditioned it by social and economic problems in rural areas.

Meanwhile, Heritage party member Larisa Alaverdyan is optimistic about the issue. “Good people are going, the best remain,” she said.
