President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Mevlut Cavusoglu said that Russia and Georgia should put aside disputes over the past to focus on future matters.
Rosbalt quoted Cavusoglu as saying that the cornerstone of future is the conflict’s political settlement in compliance with norms of the international law and safety guarantees, observance of the affected population’s freedoms and rights.
Cavusoglu believes that the conflict between the countries will continue threatening stability and development of Caucasus, unless a long-term settlement is achieved.
“First, we need to deal with matters of life conditions, human rights and outlooks of those people, who have immediately suffered from the conflicts. If we act resolutely and in concord, we will be able to achieve certain results on humanitarian matters,” Cavusoglu said.
