Thomas Hammarberg: PACE is not going to adopt sanctions against Armenia

CoE Commissioner for Human Rights Thomas Hammarberg said he has no right to offer the CoE to impose sanctions against Armenia.

“I do not think that such a possibility is considered today,” Hammarberg told a press conference in Yerevan.

“However, it does not mean that the CoE will not react to the existing problems. There are three bodies of the Council of Europe, in which such possibility can be discussed – the European Court of Human Rights, PACE monitoring committee and Committee of Ministers. However, I do not think that the PACE and Committee of Ministers will make a decision on imposing sanctions against Armenia,” said Hammarberg.
