Armenia follows implementation of strategic transport programs by its neighbors

Commenting on Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railroad construction, Armenian Minister of Transport and Communication Manuk Vardanyan said that Armenia attentively follows implementation of strategic transport programs by its neighbors.

“We follow this process and not only in Georgia. As per my instruction, monthly reports on strategic programs of neighboring countries are submitted to me and we try to control these programs to systematize the current problems related to transit in the region,” Vardanyan said on January 25.

According to Turkish Minister of Transport Binali Yildirim, the construction of the 76km-long Turkish part of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railroad is under way in compliance with international standards.

According to the Turkish Minister, after commissioning of the railroad in 2012, 3.5mln tons of cargo and 1.2mln people are envisaged to be transported by the railroad annually.

As part of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars project, a new 105-kilometer spur line is planned to be constructed, out of which 76km will be on the territory of Turkey, while 29km – Georgia.
