Armenia-proposed PACE declaration on Karabakh can serve as basis for future document

The Armenian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe pursues an initiative policy on Karabakh issue.

“The declaration I drew was supported by other members of our delegation, although chairman David Harutyunyan said that it will hardly be signed, as it’s language is too harsh. However, I think that it can serve as a basis for future documents,” delegation member Zaruhi Postanjyan told a news conference on February 1.

“We should not be afraid of a possibility to be misunderstood,” she said, adding that the deceleration was read by 50 and signed by 30 parliamentarians from 22 countries.

The declaration says, in part, that Nagorno Karabakh has never been a part of Azerbaijan, which announced itself to be the successor of the Azerbaijani Republic of 1918-20.
