Armenian Ombudsman submits resignation letter to parliament

Armenian Ombudsman Armen Harutyunyan resigned his position, having submitted the resignation letter to the National Assembly.

As Harutyunyan told a news conference in Yerevan, he accepted the position of UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Representative in Central Asia.

Harutyunyan noted provision of maximal possible independence of the human rights defender institution to be the main challenge for future Armenian Ombudsman, advising his successor to be ready for political blackmail through media.
