Newly appointed U.S. ambassador Matthew Bryza arrives in Azerbaijan

The newly appointed U.S. ambassador to Azerbaijan, Matthew Bryza will arrive in Baku on the evening of February 6.

Upon arrival, the ambassador will make a short statement to the press, Azerbaijani media reported.

The post of U.S. ambassador in Baku had been vacant since the previous ambassador, Anne Derse, completed her diplomatic mission in July 2009. After U.S. president’s nominating Bryza as the ambassador, the Senate has blocked his nominee under pressure of the Armenian lobby. Nevertheless, President Obama appointed Bryza bypassing the Senate.
