In Yerevan, Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan and his Georgian counterpart Nika Gilauri discussed tackling inflation.

Sargsyan told a press conference that currently there are not efficient tools that can facilitate neutralization of high inflation rates.

“Inflation is neither Armenian, nor Georgian phenomenon, it is conditioned by the situation in global markets,” said Sargsyan.

He also briefed on traditional tools applied by the Armenian government in the struggle against inflation.

According to Sargsyan, the amount of social benefits provided to around 105,000 families in Armenia was increased in 2010.

Besides, pensions have been raised in Armenia since November 2010.

In 2011, the Armenian government is going to subsidize the spring sowing of farms to assist, first of all, vulnerable groups of population.

The Georgian Prime Minister noted for his part that similar social packages are applied also in Georgia, including for farms.

“In February and May, we are going to provide vouchers to the population for electric energy and foodstuff,” said Gilauri.
