Russian expert: Nagorno Karabakh will never make a part of Azerbaijan

Professor of Moscow State Institute of International Relations of the Russian MFA, Doctor of Historical Sciences Alexey Malashenko said that the discrepancy between the principles of nation’s right to self-determination and territorial integrity is eternal, but the world gradually starts treating it rather calmly.

“Look at the example of Cyprus, which is divided to recognized and unrecognized parts. There is Karabakh. There is a very specific problem of Abkhazia and Southern Ossetia. There are also Kurds, it is a huge nation, which does not have its own state, let alone Africa. Thus, there is not a single model for the discrepancy resolution. It is impossible,” noted Malashenko.

“There are situations, when everyone understands rather well that there is no way back. Abkhazia will never join the composition of Georgia, while Nagorno Karabakh will never make a part of Azerbaijan. Thus, some de-facto relations will be developed. It is a rather unsteady situation,” Rossiyskaya Gazeta quoted Malashenko as saying.
