Roman Amoyan: Grand Prix allowed me to get prepared for European Championships

Olympic Games bronze winner, World Championship silver winner and European Champion Roman Amoyan (55kg), who recently won gold at the Greco-Roman Wrestling Grand Prix in Slovenia and became the best sportsman of the tournament, said that his rivals were rather strong and he had to work hard to celebrate victory.

“12 wrestlers competed in my weight category; I defeated Russian, Czech and Korean wrestlers. The final wrestle, in which I competed with the Korean sportsman (Asian champion and Grand Prix 2010 winner), was the most difficult one,” Amoyan told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter.

The Armenian wrestler believes that he has obtained confidence due to the victory at the Grand Prix prior to the European Championships due late in March in Dortmund.

“I am happy with the fact that I managed to become the best sportsman of the tournament, as not everyone can achieve such a result. The tournament provided me with the opportunity to try myself and get prepared for the European Championships,” said Amoyan.

Arthur Shahinyan (84kg) is also among the winners of the Greco-Roman Wrestling Grand Prix. European champion and World Championship silver winner Arsen Julfalakyan (74kg) and Vahan Jugharyan (60kg) won bronze medals at the tournament.
