Libyan Prosecutor General Abdul-Rahman al-Abbar said on February 25 he had resigned and joined the opposition seeking to oust Muammar al-Gaddafi, Reuters reported.

"I announce for certain the submission of my resignation from the position of prosecutor general in Libya and announce my joining the will of the Libyan people as represented by the Feb. 17 revolution of the youth," he said on Al Arabiya television.

The youngest son of Libyan strongman Muammar Gaddafi joined the anti-government protesters amid continued demonstrations against the embattled leader, IRNA news agency reported.

Saif al-Arab, who was sent by his father to help the Libyan security forces with the widespread crackdown on pro-democracy agitators in the eastern parts of Libya, joined the demonstrators in the eastern city of Benghazi Thursday.

Pro-democracy demonstrations inspired by the successful revolutions that deposed decades-long rulers in neighboring Tunisia and Egypt have engulfed Libya since Feb 14, according to IANS.
