FAON submits petition on Karabakh to Dutch parliament

After a rally by Dutch Armenians in The Hague in memory of the Sumgait massacre victims and in support of Nagorno Karabakh on February 28, the Joint Armenian Organizations in The Netherlands submitted a petition on Nagorno Karabakh was submitted to the Chairwoman of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Dutch Parliament Mrs. N. Albayrak by a delegation of the Armenian Organizations in the Netherlands on March 1.

On behalf of the Armenian delegation Mrs. Inge Drost explained to Members of Parliament the importance of Nagorno-Karabakh issue for the sensitive geopolitical region of South Caucasus and asked their support for the people of Nagorno Karabakh. Mrs. N. Albayrak assured the Armenian delegation that the Committee will seriously consider the points raised in the petition, which emphasized the importance of recognition of Nagorno Karabakh's independence by the Netherlands, which recognized Kosovo.

The petition calls upon the Dutch Parliament to condemn the violence by the Azerbaijani regime, to pay attention to the situation in Nagorno Karabakh, to revise the relationship with Azerbaijan, to support a peaceful solution for Nagorno Karabakh conflict with respect for Artsakh people's right to self-determination.

The petition will also be sent to Dutch Foreign Minister Mr. Rosenthal, Senate's chairman Mr. Van Der Linden, chairman of Dutch delegation to PACE Mrs. Bemelmans-Videc and chairman of Dutch delegation to OSCE Mr. Coruz.
