Google offers new 404 page

Google is serving a new custom 404 page when the user stumbles across a page that doesn't exist. It tells: "404. That's an error. The requested URL was not found on this server. That's all we know."

Besides the standard message, the new 404 page, (http://www.google.com/blah), includes a robot icon has fallen all to pieces and wears an expression of utter despair .

In addition to updating its own 404 page every decade or so, Google provides advice for "creating useful 404 pages" at its Webmaster Central, sources say.
