Expert: format to continue talks found in Sochi

The trilateral presidential meeting in Sochi was another chance to pledge restraint in the Karabakh conflict zone, an expert said.

“The statement adopted will hardly prove to be a lasting agreement, however, it’s important, as the sides will resume talks after the pause caused by the OSCE summit in Astana,” head of the research department at Caucasus Institute, Sergey Minasyan told a news conference in Yerevan.

Nevertheless, the Sochi declaration can’t be described as Armenia’s diplomatic victory. “The sides were expected to agree on withdrawal of snipers from the frontline. But the matter is that the Azerbaijani President was trying to save face and the result of the Sochi meeting was maximum what could be obtained from Aliyev at the moment,” he said.
