Demolition of Monument to Humanity in Kars will be delayed

The demolition of a Monument to Humanity in Kars will be delayed during the consideration of the lawsuit filed by the monument sculptor Mehmet Aksoy, lawyer Asli Kazan said.

As he noted, the plaintiff has in his possession legal documents allowing to dispute the decision of Kars municipality on the demolition of the monument. Erzrum Administrative Court ruled that the demolition of the monument symbolizing Armenia-Turkey friendship be stopped, Milliyet reported.

Earlier, Kars municipality announced a tender for monument demolition. A resolution to dismantle the monument was taken on February 1.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan kicked off a new controversy after he described a statue in the eastern province of Kars as “monstrous.”
