RA Ombudsman Karen Andreasyan considers the actions of the RA Police towards leader of Heritage party Raffi Hovannisian, who has gone on a hunger strike in Liberty Square, to be illegal.

According to Andreasyan, the ban of the police to set a tent or umbrella for Raffi Hovannisian contradicts both the national legislation and European legislation on human rights, the RA Ombudsman’s press service reported.

Raffi Hovannisian has gone on hunger strike since March 15 after he called for the President’s resignation during Heritage party’s extraordinary meeting. Announcing the start of “Hungry for Change: Freedom and Justice in Armenia” hunger strike, Hovannisian promised to coordinate his future steps with the party members. Hovannisian spent the night of March 16 in Liberty Square. He was visited by representatives of the ICRC Yerevan Office, as well as citizens and party fellows.
