The operator of Japan's stricken nuclear plant said on March 22 that a small trace of radiation was found in the Pacific sea waters nearby.

Tokyo Electric Power Co (TEPCO) officials stressed, however, that the level posed no immediate danger. "It would have to be drunk for a whole year in order to accumulate to one millisievert," a TEPCO official said, referring to the standard radiation measurement unit, Reuters reported.

Russia is also testing Pacific Ocean fish and other sea life for radiation. The Pacific Fisheries Research Center, a top marine body located in the port of Vladivostok, said it started testing samples of water, bed deposits and sea life. It hasn’t so far detected any increase in radiation, with any fallout likely to be too small to contaminate Russian waters.
