Armenia must consider Japan’s tragic experience in construction of a new NPP

Armenia must consider Japan’s tragic experience in construction of a new NPP, the director of the institute of geophysics and engineering seismology at Armenia’s National Academy of Sciences stated.

As Sevada Hovhannesyan noted at Yerevan-Moscow-Kiev TV spacebridge on the consequences of natural and technogenic disasters, Armenia’s National Seismic Service is conducting a constant monitoring of the territory of the country.

“However, earthquakes are very hard to predict despite the research work conducted. If the task of predicting the earthquakes cannot be fulfilled satisfactorily, the issue should be moved to the sphere of quakeproof building construction, thus making our NPP ready to withstand a devastating earthquake,” the expert stated.
