WB: inflation management serious challenge for Armenia

The World Bank is apt to think that Armenia will register 4-5% economic growth by the end of 2011.

“If the country can avoid negative factors from outside like energy or food crises, it will maintain the inflation target envisaged by the Central Bank,” said Jean-Michel Happi, World Bank Armenia Country Manager.

“Inflation management is a serious challenge for Armenia,” he said. “The rising prices affect the most vulnerable strata of the population. That is why we support the government’s policy and are open for cooperation to that end.”

At that same time Mr. Happi emphasized that the governmental policy on curbing inflation and toughening of the monetary policy by the Central Bank should be balanced.
