Russian Foreign Ministry concerned over possible escalation of Karabakh conflict

The Head of the Fourth CIS States Department at the Russian Foreign Ministry Andrey Kelin characterized the current situation in Caucasus as stable.

As he noted in a conversation with Voice of Russia radio station, on the positive side, no major incidents were reported on the borders with South Ossetia and Georgia, Abkhazia and Georgia.

“The situation is more complicated in the other direction. An escalation of tensions was observed in Armenia and Azerbaijan, with increased cases of ceasefire violation compared to last years results. There are some apprehensions as to the fact that the situation might get more serious in certain circumstances. However, I repeat, as a whole, the situation is better that it used to be,” he noted.
