French socialists press for adoption of bill criminalizing Armenian Genocide denial

The Socialist Party of France which won 36-percent of the votes in the regional election, has urged the Senate to adopt the bill on criminalization of the Armenian Genocide denial, Hurriyet Turkish daily reported.

As the newspaper said, “should the bill be adopted by the French Senate, it will cause strain in relations between Turkey and France.”

On March 12, 2011, about 3000 people, including world-known singer, Armenia’s ambassador to Switzerland Charles Aznavour, gathered at the French Senate building to demand adoption of the bill passed by the French National Assembly in October 2006.
