Significant slump in mortality from heart attacks observed in Armenia

About one-third of Armenia’s adult population is suffering from blood pressure issues, according to chief cardiologist of Yerevan Parunak Zelveyan.

As he told a news conference in Yerevan, the rate of blood pressure disorders among Armenian population is pretty high, comprising 17-20%. “Blood pressure disorders are mainly caused by excess weight, as well as obesity. The rate of obesity among Armenian population is 40%,” the cardiologist said.

At the same time, Mr. Zelveyan was pleased to note that over the period of 5 years (2004-2009), an increase in the rate of people with stabilized blood pressure was observed, as well as a slump in mortality from heart attacks.
