Center for diagnostics and treatment of cancer to open in Armenia

On April 13, the Armenian National Academy of Sciences hosted a meeting with Professor Dr. Thomas Haberer from the Heidelberg Ion-Beam Therapy Center HIT.

Haberer delivered a report, entitled: “Ion-Beam Therapy Center: New Criteria for Treating Cancer.”

The meeting was organized by the National Competitiveness Foundation of Armenia and Alikhanyan National Scientifici laboratory.

Edward Safaryan, Programs Manager of the National Competitiveness Foundation of Armenia, told journalists that NCFA implements a program on diagnostics and treatment of cancer, which consists of three components: radio pharmaceutical production, creation of diagnostics center, as well as establishment of an oncological clinic in compliance with international standards.

“A relevant agreement has been signed with Belgian IBA company, under which the Armenian government will purchase a special equipment – cyclotron, which will be in Armenia in 2012-2013. At the same time, the diagnostics center equipped with relevant scanners will start its operation,” said Safaryan.
