Director of the Armenian branch of CIS Institute, political analyst Alexander Margarov said that the Armenian opposition does not need to participate in elections with a joint front.

Margarov told a press conference in Yerevan that the joint front will only lead to the society’s polarization and confrontation between the authorities and opposition.

According to him, it is more advantageous for the authorities, since the opposition will gain smaller number of votes with a joint list.

“The conflict between Heritage and the Armenian National Congress (ANC) is aimed at gaining greater number of supporters. However, with the coalition statement, the authorities showed they have united their forces and the only matter is whether they will participate in the parliamentary election with a joint list or separately,” Margarov said.

Expert Edgar Vardanyan said for his part that the attention currently paid to tenseness in the opposition proves that the Armenian society pins its hopes right on it.

Vardanyan added that the opposition forces need to unite, if they indeed aim to oust the current authorities.
