“Construction boom” condemned Yerevan’s historical benchmarks to destruction

In 2000-2004 “construction boom” years in Yerevan, the center of the Armenian capital lost numerous benchmarks of culture and history, according to the head of Yerevan’s territorial department at Ministerial Agency for Historic and Cultural Monuments Preservation.As Karo Ayvazyan stated during Yerevan- Moscow- Kishinev TV spacebridge on preservation of historic benchmarks, a large-scale aggression was used against historical and cultural heritage of the Armenian capital in 2000-2004.

“In 2000-2004, monuments of culture dating back to 19-20th centuries were destroyed. Eventually, in 2004, a list of Yerevan’s monuments was created, complete with 900 cultural benchmarks.”
