International experts support expansion of powers of Armenian antimonopoly body

Yerevan hosted a discussion on economic competition with participation of German and Lithuanian experts, head of the Armenian State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition (SCPEC) Artak Shaboyan, members of the SCPEC, representatives of international organizations and journalists.

The parties focused on expansion of powers of the Armenian antimonopoly body as part of amendments to the Law on Protection of Economic Competition, the SCPEC press service reported.

Experts hailed the expansion of SCPEC powers, but stressed the necessity to provide the antimonopoly body with the right to conduct inspections at business entities.

Provision of such powers to the SCPEC was rejected by the Armenian parliament.

The discussion was organized by the SCPEC jointly with Twinning Project and German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).
