Sarkis Dkhrouni youth wing of the Social Democrat Hunchakian Party sent a letter to the U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Marie L. Yovanovitch, saying that only three days remain before the 96th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire.

“On April 14, U.S. President Barack Obama will have the opportunity to prove that the U.S. policy is based on real activity and principles of respect towards own statements, but not on vain promises. After 96 years, Turkey continues its anti-Armenian policy, keeps its border with Armenia closed, displays biased and unbalanced attitude towards Artsakh, thus, jeopardizing security and stability in the region.

The Armenian Genocide in the beginning of the 21st century was continued in early 1990-s by the war imposed on Nagorno Karabakh, ethnic cleansings and pogroms in Baku and Sumgait, what is a logical continuation of the anti-Armenian policy pursued by the Turkish-Azerbaijani tandem,” the letter reads.

It goes on saying: “Your tacit indifference towards these matters is not only offensive, but also creates impression that the U.S. uses the tragedy of the Armenian people for solution of its own political tasks. Pre-election promises of almost all U.S. Presidents on inevitable recognition of the Armenian Genocide and their silence after their election cannot be explained otherwise.”
