The secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council has said that Western countries are trying “to divert regional nations’ revolutionary movements from the right path.”

SNSC Secretary Saeed Jalili made the remarks in Tehran on Sunday, April 24 during a speech at a meeting on regional developments, which was attended by a number of Iranian ambassadors to foreign countries and other Foreign Ministry officials.

”The popular uprisings in the Middle East and North Africa have not been to the benefit of Western countries, so regional nations should remain vigilant about the Westerners’ plots to hijack or redirect their movements,” he said.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Jalili criticized the Western countries “for adopting double-standard and contradictory approaches toward the blatant violation of human rights in Bahrain.”

On Saturday, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi also criticized the West for turning a blind eye to the atrocities being committed in Bahrain.

“They are insulting the intelligence of the people by taking such positions. How can they close their eyes to the desecration of religious sites and the mistreatment of children and women?” Salehi said, Tehran Times reported.
