Azerbaijan suggests restoration of death penalty

Abolition of a death penalty in Azerbaijan was a wrong step, said Azeri MP Ilyas Ismayilov at the meeting of the parliament’s committee on legal policy and state-building.

The MP said though the abolition of death penalty was the Council of Europe’s demand, the protection of rights of the sufferers had to be considered, during this penalty’s abolition. “I don’t support the abolition of death penalty. It must be maintained in the crimes committed against personality. We should consider our national interests, when adopting the laws proposed by the Europe.”

Ismayilov thinks that there is a need for the restoration of death penalty and it will have an effect on the decrease of the crimes, APA reported.
