Pasadena City College soccer coach Warren Altounian dies at 62

The longtime soccer coach for the Pasadena City College men's and women's teams Warren Altounian died after an extended illness.

The 62-year-old coached football and cross country at Muir High School and helped establish the Mustangs' soccer team in 1972, which he coached until retiring from the Pasadena Unified School District last year. He coached the Mustangs boys to nine Pacific League titles. He has been an assistant coach at PCC since 2000 and helped first-year men's coach Edgar Manvelyan this season.

Altounian graduated from Pasadena High, attended PCC and was a member of the Lancers football team in the 1960s. His son, Greg, and daughter, Alexis, played soccer for their father at PCC. Greg currently is a volunteer assistant coach at PCC.
