Coordinator of the Armenian National Congress (ANC) Levon Zurabyan said that the congress pins hopes on the Armenian people in the political process launched with the authorities.

“People’s alertness and great number of rally participants are half the battle,” Zurabyan told a press conference in Yerevan.

He added that the authorities decided to make concessions and meet the opposition’s demands only due to resoluteness and great number of participants during the rallies launched from February 2011. Zurabyan noted that the primary goal of the Armenian National Congress is organization of pre-term presidential and parliamentary elections, while the release of political prisoners is only a required precondition for negotiations with the authorities.

He also commented on the authorities’ statements that there will be no pre-term elections in Armenia. According to Zurabyan, any side makes maximum demands prior to the launch of negotiations, what reasons these statements.
