Armenian government to prevent disputes in WTO

Armenian Minister of Economy Tigran Davtyan said that a package of legislative amendments will be submitted to the Armenian parliament, including on Protection of Domestic Market.

The legislative amendments will provide with the opportunity to set equal “rules of game” for local producers and importers of vodka, Davtyan told journalists on May 6.

According to him, licensing and state fee are applied for vodka production in Armenia, while licensing is not envisaged for imported vodka and only payment for certain volume is charged. The Minister noted that after introduction of amendments to a range of laws, licensing and state fee will be applied also for imported vodka.

Davtyan added that the amendments will contribute also to increasing the quality of vodka produced in Armenia, since requirements to producers and importers will be toughened.

The governmental decision is aimed at preventing attempts of some countries, including Ukraine to initiate a dispute with Armenia as part of the World Trade Organization.
