Armenian ambassador to Iran Grigor Arakelyan described Tehran’s mediation attempts for resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict as "useful," ISNA reported.

He made the remark in a meeting on regional geopolitics held in Tehran on Tuesday, May 10, and aimed to resolve the conflict.

"Iran has proved its honesty and friendship with Armenia over the past 20 years," the ambassador said.

Referring to Armenia-Turkey relations, he said, "The process was suspended, as Turkey insists on settlement of the Karabakh problem prior to normalization talks, what is unacceptable for Armenia."

He reiterated that the conflict should be resolved through a referendum. "Referendum is the only to settle the matter and lies within the norms of the international law."

The ambassador also reminded about Azerbaijan reluctance to stop threatening war and seal a deal to prevent resumption of hostilities.

As to Armenia-Karabakh flights, the ambassador said, "The flights will be resumed despite Azerbaijan's reaction. Armenian President has already given response to the threats to shoot down civilian planes."

Commenting on Iran's stance, the ambassador said, "Iran’s has assumed a balanced positions and attempts to help the process, which is very useful.”
