EU drafts response to Iran’s offer to negotiate on its nuclear program

EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton has received Tehran’s letter on resumption of talks over Tehran's atomic program and drafts an answer to it, said Maja Kocijancic, the spokeswoman for Ashton.

Iran's top nuclear negotiator replied on May 10 to a letter from the EU foreign policy chief on resumption of talks over Tehran's atomic program, saying they must be held without pressure, state television said.

Iranian media said earlier this month that Tehran had received a letter from Catherine Ashton, the European Union's top diplomat who has represented six world powers in contacts with the Islamic Republic, according to Reuters.

The letter was handed over in Vienna by Iran's ambassador to the European Union. In the letter, Saeed Jalili welcomed P5+1's return to talks, the state-run Iranian Arabic-language television channel al Alam reported. In the letter, Mr Jalili underlined that the talks should be just and with no pressure exerted.
